Category: Organizational resilience

Building a resilient organization requires systematic and strategic work where the Chief of Staff (CoS) plays a key role. ISO 22316 is the international standard for organizational resilience and emphasizes the importance of integrating resilience into the organization’s vision, values, and governance. The CoS is responsible for translating these principles into practice by leading cross-functional initiatives, ensuring that risk management and continuity planning are part of the strategic agenda, and that the organization continuously learns from past crises. In Sweden, this is complemented by the MSB guidelines, which emphasize accountability, proximity, and the principle of similarity – crises should be handled as close to the source as possible and with continued normal operations. EU directives, such as NIS2 and the Resilience Directive, require critical operations to have robust risk management, incident reporting, and continuity plans. CoS serves as a link between management, the board, and authorities, ensuring that the organization complies with both national and European requirements. By combining the strategic framework of ISO 22316 with Swedish and EU operational guidelines, CoS can create an organization prepared for both geopolitical crises and market disruptions. This means that resilience becomes an integral part of the business strategy, with learning, adaptability, and collaboration at the center.
