The role of CoS
The CoS often has a broad mandate to drive strategic initiatives, coordinate projects, and ensure that management decisions are implemented. The powers vary depending on the organization's size and structure, but often include leading cross-functional teams, representing the CEO in internal and external contexts, and making decisions within the framework of agreed goals. In Sweden, where flat hierarchies prevail, the mandate is based much more on trust and consensus than on formal authority. The CoS must respect the MBL and involve trade union partners in major changes. The powers should be clearly defined and communicated to avoid ambiguity and ensure effectiveness.
