There is currently no dedicated or formal certification for the role of Chief of Staff (CoS) in Sweden. Swedish universities and leading educational institutions such as Handelshögskolan Stockholm, IHM Business School or Ledarna do not offer any specific CoS certification. Instead, the path to the role is built on a combination of academic background, often a bachelor’s degree in economics or engineering, as well as experience in leadership, project management and strategic work. Swedish employers value practical experience, leadership skills, and cultural adaptability to flat hierarchies and consensus cultures first and foremost. However, there are several international certifications that may be relevant for Swedish candidates, especially in multinational companies or organizations with international management. These certifications are not a requirement on the Swedish labor market, but are rather seen as a complement to traditional education and experience.
