A Chief of Staff in Sweden has an important responsibility to ensure that the organization complies with the Money Laundering Act (2017:630) and the Financial Supervision Authority’s regulations on AML (Anti-Money Laundering). The CoS must ensure that there are risk-based procedures for customer identification, transaction monitoring, and reporting of suspicious activities to the Financial Police. This means that the CoS must coordinate the training of staff, ensure that AML policies are updated, and that there are clear processes for documentation and reporting. The CoS is also responsible for ensuring that the AML work is integrated into the organization’s risk management system and that the board receives regular reporting on AML risks and measures. In the event of major changes, such as the introduction of new IT systems for transaction monitoring, the CoS must involve trade union partners in accordance with the MBL and ensure that labor and data protection requirements are met. Compared to many other EU countries, the Swedish model is more consensus-driven and emphasizes education, transparency, and collaboration between different functions.
