In Sweden, the Medbestämmandelagen (MBL) is central to change management. The Chief of Staff (CoS) must ensure that all major changes are anchored through dialogue and negotiation with trade union representatives. This means that the CoS involves the trade union early in the process, informs about planned changes and provides opportunities for feedback before decisions are made. The process is characterized by openness, respect, and collaboration, which strengthens trust and reduces the risk of conflicts. The CoS should use structured meetings, joint working groups, and clear documentation to ensure that the MBL is followed. It is also important that the CoS trains managers and project leaders in the requirements and importance of the MBL. By combining legal compliance with an inclusive working method, the CoS can drive change management that is both effective and sustainable, while strengthening the work environment and the relationship with the trade union.
