In Swedish companies, it is common for both agile and traditional (waterfall-based) project methods to be used in parallel. The Chief of Staff (CoS) is responsible for selecting and adapting the method based on the project’s nature, the team’s experience, and the organization’s needs. Agile methods, such as Scrum or Kanban, are particularly well suited for innovation and development projects where flexibility and rapid feedback are important. Waterfall methods, such as PRINCE2, are often used for more regulated or complex projects with clear phases. The CoS needs to ensure that the teams have the right skills and that there is support for both working methods. In the Swedish consensus culture, it is important to involve the project members in the choice of method and to create understanding of why different projects require different approaches. The CoS should also promote the exchange of experiences between the teams and encourage continuous improvement of the work methods. By combining structure with flexibility, CoS can create a project environment that is both efficient and adaptable.
